Anime Monologues for Auditions Vol. 3

Auditions live or die in the first ten seconds. A monologue isn't a performance, it's a window. Casting directors want to see range, instinct, and listening. Pick material that lets you breathe between beats and surprise yourself. Anime work demands extremes, so train at the edges. Mark your shifts. Trust the silence. Then go.

Black Sails, Blue Sky - Roan Tsubaki - cocky charming skypirate

"Easy, easy! (hands up, grinning) Before you shoot, ask yourself one question. Where's my crew? (beat, crooked smile) That's right. You don't see them. You haven't seen them since you boarded. (leans against mast) Funny thing about being underestimated, captain. People hand you their plans like party favors. (twirls knife) Your gunner? Tied up in the galley. Your first mate? Drinking my rum. Your navigator? (winks) She likes me. (steps forward as captain raises pistol) Whoa whoa WHOA! Let's not be hasty. I'm a businessman. A romantic. A devastatingly handsome scoundrel with options. (sudden serious turn) But pull that trigger, and the last thing you'll see is my smile. (grins wide) And it's a REALLY good smile. (beat) So. (extends hand) Partners?"

The Cockpit Was Never Empty - Lieutenant Mio Hasegawa - broken mecha pilot

"They want me back in the seat. (hollow laugh) The doctors. The brass. My mother, even. Like the cockpit's just a chair. (stares at hands) I was nineteen when I killed my first pilot. He was younger than me. I saw his face through the viewport before the rounds went through. He smiled. Why did he smile? (voice cracking) I've asked that question for six years. Therapists. Bottles. Strangers. Nobody answers. (looks up, wet eyes) You know what I think now? I think he saw what I was about to become and felt sorry for me. (quiet) Because I climbed back in. Again. And again. Forty-three confirmed kills. Forty-three smiles I invented because I can't remember their faces anymore. (stands slowly) Yeah. Tell the colonel I'll fly. (whispers) What's one more ghost."

The Mark Beneath the Skin - Shouta Renjiro - demon-cursed hunter

"Don't touch me. (jerks back, sleeve sliding up to show black veins) See that? It moves at night. It whispers. It KNOWS things, sister. Things about you. Things about the boy you buried last winter. (eyes squeeze shut) I'm sorry. I'm sorry, that wasn't me. That was IT. (grips own arm) They said the curse would take ten years. I'm at six. I can feel my hands forgetting whose side they're on. (soft, urgent) Listen to me. When my eyes go red. When I stop using your name. When I laugh and it doesn't sound like me. (pulls blade, places it in her hand) You put this through my heart. PROMISE me. (grabs her wrist) No hesitation. No mercy. No goodbye. (forces smile) I love you, sis. (steps back) That's the last time I'll get to say it."

Encore Under Stage Lights - Mika Hoshikawa - idol with dark secret

"They're chanting my name. (checks reflection, fixes lipstick) Listen to them. Twelve thousand people. Glow sticks. Tears. Little girls who want to be me. (turns slowly) You came backstage to expose me. Brave. Most journalists wait for the press conference. (sweet smile) So tell me what you think you know. The factory girl. The contract. The man I had to marry to get out. The baby I gave up. (tilts head) Print it. (quiet laugh) You think it'll destroy me? Sweetheart. Those girls out there don't love me because I'm pure. They love me because I'm SHINING. (adjusts microphone) You can publish every ugly thing I've ever done, and I'll still walk out there and sing. (voice hardening) Because I learned something the gutter taught me. (eyes dark) SPOTLIGHTS BURN UGLINESS AWAY. (smiles brilliantly) Watch me work."

The Smartest Boy in the Room - Tatsuya Shirogane - aloof arrogant prodigy

"You scored ninety-two. (barely glances) Congratulations. You're average. (turns page) No, don't sit. This won't take long. I read your dissertation. The one you've been working on for three years. (closes book) It's wrong. The premise. The methodology. The conclusion. Especially the conclusion. (finally looks up) I solved it last Tuesday. Between classes. On a napkin. (beat) I'm not telling you this to be cruel. I'm telling you because you have the only thing I've ever envied. (quieter) You care. You actually care whether you're right. I stopped caring at twelve. (looks away) Everything came easy and nothing meant anything and now I solve impossible problems on napkins because nothing else makes me FEEL anything. (slides paper across desk) Here's the proof. Publish it under your name. (small, broken smile) Maybe someone will love you for it."

A Sword Is a Promise - Captain Yuna Tachibana - devoted royal bodyguard

"Get behind me. (draws blade smoothly) No, your highness. Behind me. We've discussed this. (eyes never leaving the doorway) I know you're frightened. I know you've never seen a man die. I know your mother told you bodyguards are servants and you were raised to think we kneel. (soft) But I don't kneel for you because of your blood, princess. I kneel because I CHOSE to. (whisper of footsteps in the hall) When I was eight, your father pulled me from a burning village. I owed him a life. (beat) I've decided that life is yours. (door creaks) So when those men come through that door, you will not see me hesitate. You will not see me fear. (braces) You will see what a promise looks like. (roars) COME ON, THEN! TASTE THE STEEL OF THE TACHIBANA!"

Ashes of a House - Lord Akihiko Sumeragi - disgraced fallen noble

"This used to be my dining hall. (walks slowly through ruins) Twelve courses. Crystal goblets. My father at the head of that table, telling me no son of his would amount to anything. (small laugh) He was right, in the end. (kicks a charred timber) The bank took the lands. The court took the title. The servants took whatever wasn't nailed down. (turns) And you? You took my fiancée. (holds up hand) No, please. Don't deny it. I saw you both at the spring gala. The way she laughed. (quiet) She never laughed like that with me. (deep breath) I came here tonight to challenge you. Sword in hand. Honor on the line. (drops sword in ashes) But standing in this house... (looks up, broken smile) ...I realize I lost her the same way I lost everything else. (walks past him) Take care of her. Properly."

A Fox Has Many Names - Tamamo the Hollow - mischievous trickster spirit

"Oh, you're CUTE when you're confused. (circles them, tail flicking) Yes, I have a tail today. No, I didn't yesterday. No, you can't touch it. (giggle) You humans are so funny. You ask 'what are you' like the answer fits in a word. (suddenly upside down on a tree branch) Today I'm a fox. Yesterday I was your grandmother. Tomorrow? (grin widens) Maybe I'll be the wind. Maybe I'll be the dream you forget on waking. Maybe I'll be the reason your tea tastes funny. (drops down, suddenly very close) I've watched your kind for nine hundred years. You build cages out of words. Names. Genders. Truths. (boops their nose) I just... don't. (spins away laughing) You came to my shrine for a wish, mortal. (turns, eyes glowing gold) But the price is your favorite memory. (smiles) CHOOSE!"

The Hill We Couldn't Take - Sergeant Kuro Watanabe - battle-scarred war veteran

"Sit down, kid. (pours sake) You've got that look. The look I had before my first deployment. Like glory's a thing you can grab with both hands. (passes cup) Drink. (beat) I had eighteen men under me at Crimson Hill. Good men. Stupid like you. Brave like you. (stares at wall) We were ordered to take a position that didn't matter. Some general's pride. Some line on a map. (quiet) I came back with four. (long pause) Their families thanked ME at the funerals. Thanked me. Like I'd done them a favor. Bringing back what was left. (slams cup) So you came here for a blessing. For old Kuro to send you off proud. (stands, fierce) HERE'S MY BLESSING! KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN! TRUST NO MEDAL! AND IF YOU MUST DIE, MAKE IT MEAN SOMETHING THE GENERALS CAN'T STEAL! (softer) Now go."

It's Not Like I Wanted To - Rina Sakamoto - tsundere defensive heroine

"DON'T get the wrong idea! (face red, arms crossed) I made extra lunch because Mom packed too much rice. NOT because I was thinking about you. (turns away) And the umbrella thing yesterday was a coincidence. I happened to be walking the same direction. For forty minutes. In the rain. (huffs) Stop SMILING like that! You look stupid! (quieter) And don't tell anyone I waited at the train station. I wasn't waiting. I was... reading. (holds up book upside down) See? Reading. (catches herself, fixes book) SHUT UP. (long pause, voice softening) I just... when you got hurt last week, and I saw the bandages... (eyes welling) I couldn't sleep, okay? I couldn't sleep and I HATE that I couldn't sleep because I'm not supposed to care this much! (grabs his collar, shouting) SO STOP GETTING HURT, IDIOT!"
