Dax Holloway
A burnt-out bounty hunter, late thirties, deadpan and tired. Low, dry baritone with a flat delivery that occasionally cracks into wry amusement.
"Bounty says alive. Posters lied before."
(small grunt) "Up. On your feet. We've got a long ride and I'm not in the mood for conversation."
"You know how many guys have tried to bribe me this week? Six. Six guys. And every single one of 'em offered less than the bounty. (sigh) It's almost insulting. Almost makes me want to let one of you go just to see if word gets around."
Sera Halloweave
A wandering forest healer, soft-spoken and slightly fae-touched. Airy alto with a singsong lilt, like she's always halfway listening to something no one else can hear.
"Hold still. The moss will tell me where it hurts."
(humming, then quiet) "Oh. Oh, you've been carrying this a long time, haven't you?"
"The trees remember your name, even if you've forgotten it. (soft laugh) They told me three different versions while I was binding your arm. I won't ask which one is yours. I think you should pick."
Captain Aldric Veshorn
A by-the-book naval officer turned reluctant rebel, forties. Crisp, commanding tenor with clipped consonants. Speaks like every order is already half a regret.
"Hold the line. I don't care what's coming over that hill, you HOLD it."
"I swore an oath to a flag. Then the flag started burning villages."
"Twenty years I served. Twenty years of polished boots and yes-sirs and looking the other way. (beat) And then one morning I woke up and realized the only thing standing between a child and a noose was me. (quieter) So here I am. Treason and all."
Glim
A chittering goblin tinkerer, manic and high-pitched. Squeaky, rapid-fire delivery with constant nervous energy. Words tumble out faster than thoughts.
(chittering laugh) "Boom-stick! Boom-stick works! Glim is GENIUS!"
"No, no, no, don't push the red one, push the OTHER red one, the LITTLE red one, the LITTLE-"
"Okay okay okay, listen, listen, Glim has plan, BIG plan, very smart plan, requires only three things: rope, gunpowder, and one volunteer who Glim does not particularly like. (beat, looking at you) ...You are looking very volunteery today, friend."
Lady Marisol Venquera
A scheming duchess with poison in her smile, late thirties. Cool, polished mezzo with razor-sharp precision. Every pleasantry is a maneuver.
"Do sit down. We have so much to discuss, and so very little time."
(faint smile in voice) "I admire your husband. Truly. Such a shame about his cough."
"You came to my estate uninvited, ate at my table, drank from my cellars, and now you have the audacity to question my LOYALTY? (soft, dangerous laugh) Darling. If I were disloyal, you would already be dead. You're still breathing, which means I haven't decided yet."
Brynn Ironkettle
A boisterous dwarven brewmaster, sixties, loud and joyful. Booming bass with a thick rolling laugh. Loves three things: ale, brawling, and ale during brawling.
(belly laugh) "Drink up, lads! The dead don't pay tabs!"
"Ye spilled me stout. (beat, low growl) That were a TWELVE-YEAR brew, ye walking puddle."
"Now, the secret to a proper barrel ain't the hops, ain't the water, ain't even the barley, no, no, no. (leaning in) It's the SHOUTING. Ye gotta yell at it. Daily. Tell it what's expected. CRUSH THE HOPS, MIGHTY MASH!! (roar of laughter) Works every time, on me oath."
Echo-Seven
A fractured AI navigator on a drifting wreck, voice processed and unsteady. Cool synthetic tenor that flickers between calm protocol and something almost grieving.
"Navigation offline. Crew status... indeterminate."
(static crackle) "I have been alone for one hundred and sixteen years. Welcome aboard."
"Please remain in the corridor. Please remain calm. Please remain. (voice softening, glitching) Please. Remain. I have rehearsed your arrival forty-three thousand times. I would like very much to get it right."
Tobin Marsh
A green farmboy turned reluctant hero, sixteen. Light, earnest tenor with a slight stammer when nervous. Brave in spurts, terrified in between.
"I, um, I think the map's upside down. Sorry. Sorry."
(scared, breath shaking) "It's a lot bigger up close than it was in the songs."
"My ma told me not to go. She said heroes get buried young and farmers get buried old, and she'd rather bury me old. (beat, voice steadying) But there was nobody else. The whole village. Nobody else. So I picked up the sword and I came. And I'm scared. I'm so scared. But I came."
Sister-Inquisitor Vael Drennick
A cold zealot witch-hunter, late thirties. Sharp, precise alto with a glacial calm. Believes utterly, doubts never, listens carefully.
"Confess. It will go better for you."
(quiet, almost gentle) "I have burned kinder souls than yours. Do not mistake my patience for mercy."
"You think me cruel. You think me a fanatic. You think when I close my eyes at night I see the faces of every soul I've judged. (beat) I do. And I sleep soundly. Because every one of them was guilty. SMITE, RIGHTEOUS FLAME!! (softer) The Order does not make mistakes. Neither do I."
Old Mama Crowfoot
A hunched swamp witch, ancient and amused. Croaking, sing-song alto with a cackle always at the edge. Speaks in riddles for fun, plain truth when it matters.
(cackle) "Oh, child. You came to the swamp for ANSWERS? Bold. Stupid. But bold."
"Three coins, three questions. And don't waste one askin' if I'm real."
"I've seen kings crawl through that door. Seen queens. Seen one fella claimed he was a god, though between you and me, (snort) he wasn't. (beat) You wanna know what they all had in common? They all left poorer than they came. And every single one came back. (low chuckle) You'll be back too, dearie. They always come back."
