Asahi Mitsumura

A reincarnated salaryman now stuck in a fantasy world he keeps comparing to corporate life. Tired, dry tenor with bursts of unexpected confidence. Treats demon lords like difficult middle managers.

  1. (sigh) "Right. New world. New job. Same nonsense."

  2. "Slay the dragon? Sure. Send me the paperwork. I'll have it back by Friday."

  3. "Look, I died in a vending machine accident. (beat) A VENDING machine. So forgive me, your majesty, if your 'great prophecy' doesn't exactly intimidate me. I spent fifteen years optimizing supply chains for a man who screamed about staplers. (quieter) You? You're nothing. Now sit down. We're restructuring your kingdom."

Mei Kurogane

A quiet classmate with a knife in her bag and your name in her notebook. Soft, breathy soprano that giggles in all the wrong places. Speaks like every word is a small gift.

  1. (soft giggle) "I traced your hand while you were sleeping. It's so pretty."

  2. "You smiled at someone else today. (beat) I noticed."

  3. "I'm not jealous. I'm really not. (small laugh) I just want to know her name. And her address. And her schedule. And if she has any allergies. (softer) That's normal, right? That's just being a good friend. (beat, sweet) We're best friends, aren't we?"

Prince Ryuga Sorath

The arrogant heir to the dragon clan, eternally annoyed by humans. Smooth, commanding tenor with a sharp edge of disdain. Treats compliments like court documents.

  1. "Bow. Or don't. I'll remember either way."

  2. (scoff) "You wear that armor like you borrowed it. Did you?"

  3. "Five thousand years my bloodline has ruled the eastern sky. Five THOUSAND. And in all that time, not one mortal has ever spoken to me the way you just did. (beat, dangerous) Congratulations. You're memorable. (quieter) Briefly. SCALES OF THE FIRST DAWN, IGNITE!! (softer) Run, if you like. I enjoy the chase."

Lulu Pommegrin

An overeager alchemist apprentice who turns everything into either soup or an explosion. Bubbly, fast-talking soprano with a constant excited squeak. Smells faintly of sulfur.

  1. (gasp) "OH! Oh! Oh! It changed colors! That means it's WORKING! Or DYING! Stand back!"

  2. "Master said not to mix these two. (beat, giddy) But he's not HERE, is he?"

  3. "Okay, okay, OKAY, so technically, technically, the manual says this should produce a healing draught, but I added a little firefly powder for sparkle, AND a pinch of moonleaf because it's pretty, AND a tiny tiny bit of dragon ash because, well, WHY NOT, and now, (beat, looking down) ...it's growing legs. Is it supposed to grow legs? Master? MASTER?!"

Detective Shinya Kuroda

A burnt-out homicide detective with a coffee addiction and a moral compass that won't quit. Low, gravelly baritone with a permanent sigh. Speaks like every clue is personally insulting.

  1. "Another body. Another Tuesday."

  2. (rubbing eyes) "Don't lie to me, kid. I've been lied to by professionals."

  3. "Twenty-two years on this force. Three partners buried. One marriage ended over a case file I couldn't put down. (beat, dry) And I still come in every morning at six, because somebody's daughter is dead, and her father deserves a name to scream at. (quieter) So. Start from the beginning. Leave nothing out."

Aiko Sumiraki

A peppy childhood friend who's been silently in love forever, sixteen. Bright, warm soprano with a wobble whenever feelings creep in. Always carries an extra bento "just in case."

  1. (cheerful) "Morning! I made too much lunch! Want some?"

  2. (small, brave laugh) "Of course I'm happy for you. She seems really, really nice."

  3. "We've known each other since we were six. SIX. I have a box at home with every birthday card you've ever given me, even the one shaped like a turtle that didn't make sense. (beat, voice softening) And I never said anything because I was scared. (quieter) And now you're holding HER hand. (deep breath, smiling) And I'm... I'm fine. I'm really fine. Tell her I said hi."

General Kazuha Renmaru

A stoic samurai general who hasn't smiled in ten years, fifties. Deep, controlled bass with monastic precision. Speaks like every sentence is a sheathed blade.

  1. "Hold the gate. To the last man. To the last breath."

  2. (quiet) "Honor is not a sword. It is the hand that refuses to draw one."

  3. "I have served three lords. Two of them deserved it. (beat) The third I followed because my men still believed in him, and a general who breaks his soldiers' faith is no general at all. (softer) Today, I draw the blade one final time. Not for the lord. Not for the crown. (quieter) For the men beside me. BLOOM, WINTER CHRYSANTHEMUM!! (softer) Forward."

Pip Tinkertumble

A tiny, hyperactive gremlin mechanic who treats every machine like a misunderstood friend. Chittering, squeaky tenor with a manic giggle. Speaks at twice the normal speed.

  1. (rapid chitter) "Engine sad! Engine LONELY! Pip fix! Pip FIX!"

  2. "You called it a piece of junk. (gasp) In FRONT of it. Apologize. NOW."

  3. "Okay, okay, listen-listen-listen, so the gearbox is mostly fine, the pistons are mostly fine, the fuel line is mostly fine, the cockpit is, um, definitely on fire, BUT, (beat, triumphant squeak) the radio works! The radio works PERFECTLY! That's the important part! (giggle) Now we just need someone to fly it. Someone brave. Someone disposable. (looking at you) ...Hi."

Yume Hashimoto

A gentle ghost girl haunting the school library, ageless but appears fourteen. Soft, airy soprano with a faraway echo. Speaks like she's afraid of being heard, and a little hopeful she will be.

  1. (softly) "Oh. You can see me? Please don't scream. The last one screamed."

  2. "I've been here a long time. I think. The bookmarks keep moving."

  3. "I used to come here every day after class. The librarian, Mrs. Onozuka, she'd save me the seat by the window. (beat, very quiet) I don't know what happened. I just remember the rain. And then the lights were different, and the books were new, and nobody answered when I said good morning. (soft laugh, almost crying) You said good morning. (beat) Thank you. Thank you."

Boss Garai Tsukamoto

An old-school yakuza boss with a strict code and a soft spot for stray dogs, sixties. Gravel-deep bass with a slow, measured drawl. Speaks like every word is being weighed against his honor.

  1. (low) "Sit. Drink. Then we'll talk about why you're still breathing."

  2. "I broke a man's hand for less than what you just said. (beat) Lucky for you, I like your father."

  3. "Forty years in this life. Forty. I've buried friends, betrayed enemies, raised three sons, and one of them ain't speakin' to me, and frankly, (beat) he's right not to. (quieter) So when I tell you the code matters, boy, I ain't quoting some old book. I'm telling you what the dead taught me. (softer) Pour the sake. And listen carefully."
